I have received notifications about new subscribers signing up and in truth it’s a slight understatement to respond with just the words “being both surprised and delighted”. Is gob-smacked still an expression!
So first I want to say thank you to those who have subscribed and a welcome to anyone else who’s dropping in to visit. I hope you enjoy whatever lands here as much as I find myself delighting in this relatively new creative process. AND, an additional extra special mention/thank you to Ramona Grigg – your most recent encouragement was/is a driver to publishing this one.
The few days between now and that very first post have been incredibly busy and filled with some of the most heart-opening / soul connecting experiences. It would be so fun to capture each and every one… but then the post would be rambling for hours, so instead it feels about right to just focus on the most recent one which involves a great grandson. This event raised that spectrum of awareness about how life truly does come and go in a matter of blinks and at the same time generated true belly laughs.
My husband, best-friend, soul mate Donald James, aka the Prince, left our earth-school on our wedding anniversary in 2018. On November 20, 2021 great-grandson Sawyer James arrived and I was not alone in saying “OMG he looks just like his GGpa … AND… he did and does. I continue to lean into the idea that my own “prince” has reincarnated early…LOL. [Sawyer on the viewers left and GGpa Donald on the right]
Although we cannot be connected “at the hip” because of geographical distance his mom does a spectacular job of posting clips that just fill my heart to the brim. (The link to “Conversation with baby” below says much.)
Two short blink tracks
The technological world we occupy allows for the presentation of a spectacular “view” of the lives of those we’re most connected with. Moments in time that are incredibly precious and can be retained for posterity and history. There doesn’t seem to be just one word that can adequately describe the emotions that surface when these moments suddenly appear live, in full colour and with sound! For me, gratitude is naturally at the top of the list along with amazement and full-on happiness. Because of a newer understanding about all of us human suits having an “exit point” the awareness about the “blinks” has sparked deeper meaning.
AND
In addition to the many gifts received via these technological marvels it also feels right to recognize and applaud the new parenting approaches being embraced by these next generations. Within this blended family there are twelve grandchildren (most of them married), and 11 great-grandchildren. The parents of the greats are incredible models. They have embraced and are applying new approaches to parenting and as a Gma / GGma I’m thoroughly impressed. The days of Dr. Spock appear to have left the building!
Just as the blinks continue to startle me at times, there are also moments when I hear acknowledgement from the grands that the blinks also surprise them.
I come from an era of telephones that rang as one ringy dingy, two ringy dingy, horse drawn sleighs, Brownie cameras, and no such thing as “take-out” or “fast food” just to name a few. The list is long! Point being made? That to live a couple of hundred miles away and still be able to see and listen to a “Conversation with baby” is amazing.
Do any of you also hear that “…hhmmm – then uh uh” just as he puts the bottle into his mouth? I can’t help but laugh every time I play it (which is often)…so thanks Shelby..xoxo
And the point of all of this is?
Nothing profound – simply a suggestion to take time to appreciate and cherish your own “moments/blinks” – they all come and go so very quickly.
The eldest grandson in my own ever evolving story entered his fourth decade just over a year ago. Suddenly, all these years later (after having held him when he was just days old) we’re having exchanges/conversations/sharing of ideas via our technological world and engaging on a deeper level of exploration than I would have ever anticipated. Those moments are equally amazing to this writer.
Recognition of, and belief in, “something” more loving and all-encompassing than this human-suited earth-school traveller has evolved over time. Unable to find just one word that seems to satisfy a “definition/description” I lean toward spirit of the universe and more recently making a connection with what I call “My Guide Tribe”. There are as many stories to unfold about that little trip down the rabbit hole as there are about all the other rabbit holes. Perhaps it’s sufficient to say the bottom, bottom line is probably about love.
Thank you for reading. If even one small idea results in even one small “aha” for you then I do believe I remain “perfectly on time”.
